Here is a rare and unknown gemstone, the fire opal. This unusual variety of opal is found for the most beautiful of them in Mexico. The Aztecs were the first to mine and extract fire opals, which then adorned ornaments and objects of worship. This stone, which comes from volcanic regions, is often hidden within the rock in which it was formed, hence the difficulty in extracting it.
Particularly rare and prized when they are red and translucent, fire opals reveal their beauty and depth under natural light. Its exceptional fire is revealed at dawn or dusk when the light is soft and progressive.
Like all opals, its delicacy comes from its particularly water-rich composition. It is therefore best suited to be worn as a pendant, earrings or brooch.
